Lincoln “Hands-on” Construction Week 2018
The Lincoln Group Training Association (LGTA), in partnership with The Education Business Partnership (The EBP) will be holding their next Construction Week Event over the period 2-4 Oct 2018.
Held on the Lincolnshire Showground, this interactive event is organised by the LGTA and supported by local construction companies, The EBP, Lincoln College and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and interest in the diversity of careers available within the Construction Industry. In 2017 the event was held early in October and attracted 1,100 youngsters from 45 local schools who had the opportunity to sample some of the 27 hands-on construction related activities being show-cased.
The event is open to year 6 primary pupils and all secondary years. Students work in groups of no more than 15, aided by local construction company personnel, staff from Lincoln College and STEM Ambassadors.
The event is primarily funded by the CITB, with activity providers giving of their time and resources voluntarily, so is free for schools to attend. Schools are expected to provide staff to accompany their groups in the appropriate ratio and are responsible for their own transport to and from the venue. Pupils and staff are expected to bring packed lunches and wear clothing appropriate to the weather as many of the activities are out-door. Each school group will experience 4 diverse activities from those on offer during their visit. Awards are presented at the end of each day for the most engaged pupils and staff members.
